Self Defence 9: Footwork

Vital for some - but a Liability for You!

Important for YOUR success - but leading to YOUR defeat!

Slide your feet and demolish him - slide your feet and get kicked in the belly!

Move to your Left, WHACK! him - Move to your Right, be whacked yourself!

Move about - be crushed! Stand still - crush him!

To be skilled in Footwork - ten long intense years of study; but to be skilled in Winning - five minutes of study - Stand Still!

Practice your footwork- and Lose; Don’t - and win!

The most important factor in using footwork is - DON’T! You will surely be defeated and smashed.

For you, as a Beginner, this is most important advice. When you hit him, don’t move your feet.

If you misguidedly attend self defence classes, your instructors will pour scorn on these remarks. Show them a copy of the first part above those dots and you’ll see what I mean!

Explanation

You are a middle-aged unfit man or woman with no training or experience in the martial arts. You want to survive alive and unbroken in a mugging or rape attempt. You want that knowledge now, today - tonight indeed! You lack time, you lack fitness. You lack skill. You lack strength. You lack inbuilt ruthlessness. You don’t have a chance?

Wrong!

Simply because you don’t have a chance against a professional mugger or drugged rapist, YOU DO! You have every real chance of surviving, of breaking him.

You are aware that a weapon gives you that much more chance of coming through in more or less one piece. You MUST therefore carry a weapon. A valid legal weapon. But what is a legal weapon?

A walking stick, an umbrella, a dog chain or dog chew. Possibly a karatetsu P.E.S.T.

Don’t put any reliance whatsoever on rape alarms - why should an innocent bystander come to help you, a total stranger, and have his throat cut as well as yours? It just doesn’t make sense. Far safer for him to mobile phone the police, five miles away, and stay alive to try to identify your killer …

You must learn say three techniques with your favourite weapon - stick, umbrella, chew, whatever.

Your technique must be delivered from a standing still position. If you move your feet the (expert) mugger will laugh.

It must arise from an innocent, non-threatening position. It must not be held above your head as if about to hit him. Ideally (in your case) it must arise from your right rear and slash up through his left chops.

You must give absolutely no warning. This takes courage (and Autogenic Training!)

And then and only then can you step to your left and smash down into the angle of his right neck. Many times, many many many times …

To use footwork takes much, much practice, months indeed. If you are not immaculate in your move, he will counter you. He may be a Mugger but most assuredly he’s no mug.

If you don’t move your feet he MAY not twig on to your intention. And you must hit him in the instant before he starts his close attack. You must hit him first. You must in fact PRE-EMPT his coming attack and scatter his wits as you smash his chops. And only then, while he is momentarily witless do you proceed as Survival dictates - WHACK!

Footwork? What footwork? You want to survive, don’t you?

You do, don’t you?

Did I hear you say “Yes”?

Then forget about Footwork!

Languages And Audio Bible Translations

audio bible, download audio bible, greek audio bible, hebrew audio bible

For pastors and missionaries out in the field, it can be a challenge to become proficient enough in one or more native languages to be able to communicate and explain the Word of God. Everyone responds to their native language the best. If you are in a crowded room of people speaking several different languages, your ears will pick up on the ones speaking a language that you can understand and to which you can best relate. This is true when it comes to communicating the Word of God to others, and that is why the audio bible has revolutionized sharing God’s Word. No longer do you need to be a proficient speaker to share the love of God with others. The audio bible is translated into many different languages, this can be of great benefit when reaching across cultural boundries.

Translations of the audio Bible originate from the Bible Societies, Wycliffe Bible Translators and other groups that do Bible translations for people and groups who have never had their spoken language written down before. The terrible thing is that over half the world’s population cannot read, so that even if the Bible is translated into the appropriate languages, often it cannot be utilized by the people who have no other way to come into effective contact with it. Audio Bibles offer an effective solution to this dilemma.

This is offset by new technologies offering teachers, pastors and missionaries the ability to download audio Bible files in mp3 CD formats. The Bible has been recorded in audio format in 260 different languages, and is available for languages spoken on every continent.

Getting equipment to work properly out in the field is always a challenge to missionaries who are working in third-world countries. Unreliable or nonexistent electrical sources can make running electronic equipment in the field not something you can count on regularly. However, with the advent of electronic audio technologies that can be run on solar-powered batteries, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities for missionaries far out in areas not regularly serviced with utilities like electricity. A playback device that can play mp3CDs can make you life much easier, and make your ministry more effective as native speakers hear the language they understand, and come closer to a relationship with God.

Language learners who are trying to learn foreign languages, such as Bible scholars needing to study Greek and Hebrew, will find the Greek audio Bible and the Hebrew audio Bible very helpful tools. You can grab your Greek New Testament or Hebrew Old Testament Bible, pop the appropriate audio Bible CD into your player, and listen to the Greek or Hebrew being spoken as you read along in those languages. This is another way to increase your skill in language understanding, as well as Bible knowledge.

Practicing deep breathing exercise can reduce stress to a great extent. Deep breathing exercise not only involves the lungs but also portions of abdomen. If you would like to experience abdominal breathing, the first thing you need is to sit comfortably with straight back. Then you put one hand on your stomach and the other one on chest. Need Prosperity? Get Peaceful!

It’s pretty obvious that prosperity can promote peacefulness in our lives. When we have enough money, we automatically feel happy, calm, secure and comfortable. Financial lack, on the other hand, brings along unsettling feelings of anxiety, worry, fear, and chaos.

However, did you know that you can also use a peaceful mind-set to attract greater prosperity into your life? It’s a simple matter of changing the way you view your financial situation!

Here’s how to do it:

To develop a truly peaceful state of mind, you’ll need to work at it daily. I recommend setting aside 10 or 15 minutes to start, but you can gradually increase the time if you want to. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed, and spend a few minutes first relaxing your body and quieting your thoughts. You can also put on some soothing music, light scented candles or incense, or anything else that helps you feel relaxed.

Once you feel calm and centered, bring to mind an image of yourself feeling very calm, peaceful and content with your financial situation. There are many ways to envision this scenario, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

- See yourself living day to day without any financial concerns. Imagine how you would feel if you had all the money you could ever want, and how that feeling would change the experiences of your life.

- See yourself living in a beautiful, big house, driving a brand new car, wearing beautiful clothing, and so on. Imagine how you would feel having plenty of time and money to do the things you really love.

- Imagine yourself paying your bills with ease each month. See yourself writing checks with pleasure and confidence, knowing that you have plenty of money to pay for your living expenses and anything else you need or want.

The specifics of these visions don’t matter so much as the FEELINGS you experience while you engage with them. Consciously calling up feelings of peacefulness, contentment and happiness in relation to your financial situation will automatically attract greater prosperity into your life! Rather than putting forth an energy signal of panic, worry and lack, you’ll be communicating to the universe that all is well in your financial world, and the universe will nod and make it so.

In addition, be sure you place yourself into this type of peaceful state before you do anything relating to your financial situation physically. Be sure not to pay your bills while you’re feeling frustrated or anxious - ONLY while you’re feeling relaxed and happy. The same thing goes for making large purchases or signing a contract. Peace and harmony must precede any kind of financial activity, or else you’re going to attract situations and experiences you don’t want.

For best results, you’ll want to do a peacefulness meditation not only before you engage in financial activities, but also several times a day! If you don’t have a lot of time to devote to it, try aiming for 3 five-minute sessions a day. You can do these mini-meditations nearly anywhere; simply close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and call up images of peacefulness and prosperity.

The more you do this, the more powerful energy you lend to the creation of exactly that circumstance.

Thinking Made Easy

Dr. Seuss created a funny little story about Mrs. McCave. She had 23 sons and she named them all Dave. Now when you ask, “Who Is Dave?” The question, under
normal circumstances, would lead to a normal answer. But if you were to ask her, it
would be baffling.

Similarly, if you ask “what is thinking?” you tend to baffle your listener.

This is because there is no singular way of thinking.

It has even been said that you can make people do almost anything, except think.

While this is supposed to be funny. It is also sad, in a way.

Because thinking is essential to evolution. Both your own and that of humanity as a whole.

It is also ironic, because all we appear to do all day is think.

Yet can this ceaseless stream of thoughts really be classified as thinking? After all, it seldom results in new ideas, new solutions, or a new way to grow.

From this we can assume that thinking is more than stream-of-consciousness thinking.

It is, in fact, a discipline.

Thinking is a strategic game. Most people try to think through things without a strategy.
This results in a completely muddled thought process. And it is this that makes thinking difficult, frustrating, and something most people avoid.

However, once you introduce strategy into your thinking, it actually becomes enjoyable, the frustration disappears, and surprising and often paradigm-shattering answers appear.

Here are the two most famous ways of thinking.

The first is visual thinking. This method was named Gedanken, which is the German word for thought. But really, the translation is more a thought experiment. In other words, imagine a scenario which examines a question.

Einstein was a champion at this way of thinking, although he did not invent it. By imagining riding on a beam of light, he got rid of the idea of an ether and created the Special Theory of Relativity.

Similarly, Nikola Tesla said that he could run a machine in his mind to see if it worked properly.

This method is powerful because it occurs at the alpha or theta level of consciousness.

Alpha waves (8 - 12 Hz) are seen when we are both alert and relaxed. These waves decrease with physical activity. Theta Waves are 4 - 8 Hz . We see these brain waves when we are falling asleep or just waking up and during the early stages of sleep.

Another method was that of Socrates, who would ask questions, get an answer, and turn that answer into a new question. In other words, he would create a chain reaction, and be
able to probe deep into moral and philosophical concepts. This method revolutionized the soldier-farmer culture of Athens to become one of the most brilliant cultures per population number in the history of the world.

This thinking, I believe, functioned at the gamma level (26-80 Hz), the brain waves associated with higher level thinking, problem solving, and interpretive consciousness.

Incidentally, the reason why stream-of-consciousness thinking does not result in much originality, is because it is usually at beta waves, (12-26 Hz) which is a high stress or anxious type of thinking and because it is unsystematic. Basically, your thoughts run around in loops.

Ironically, one of the reasons for a decline in thinking, is modern education, with it’s emphasis on knowledge gathering, rather than interpretive thought. It is the result of an industrial age mentality, large numbers of people are taught the same thing similar to a factory that makes a large number of the same products. By stripping away individuality, it also does away with originality.

In education, today, with the emphasis on didactic teaching, thinking, in the sense of original and creative discovery, does not happen much. Usually, a teacher talks and a student listens and follows a reading assignment. The only feedback required of the student is to repeat back the ideas at some future time, and usually under conditions of a lot of fear and tension.

Because of the relative passivity of the student using this method, little is reflected upon and what has been memorized also soon fades away.

Besides the visual thinking method of artists and scientists and the questioning method of philosophers, another strategy of thinking has emerged, which, for want of a better name,
we will call creative thinking.

There are numerous methods of creative thinking, from brainstorming to lateral thinking to mind-mapping.

Here is one method that might prove helpful to you. This method is particularly good for completely baffling practical problems, in particular business or personal problems.

1. Write down everything about a difficult problem that bothers you. Blow off steam.

2. Write down all possible solutions. Do this until you feel you have exhausted every possible answer. The answers do not have to be original, just any answer. Also, don’t repeat an answer.

3. Do something completely unrelated.

4. Out of the blue, you will suddenly know the best answers from step 2 or you may even come up with something new.

The reason this method works is because it causes a break in neuronal habituation. Initially, in step one, you exhaust all aspects of your stuck state. Then in step two, you exhaust all known or possible answers. In step three, you let your subconscious mind do all the work. Finally, in step four, it gives you an answer.

The reason thinking is important is that it helps you to transcend levels of difficulties and evolve as a human being much faster. If the thinking is original enough, it can even evolve a whole culture or humanity as a whole.
