13 Ways To Stay Safe On Ebay

EBay is a very large website with millions of visitors each week. Some people just want to browse through and buy items, while others take this opportunity to prey upon them. Here are the thirteen ways to staying safe on eBay.

1) Beware of invitations to trade on another site.

This is a classic tactic of fraudsters. Once they make some kind of contact with you, they will invite you to purchase or sell off eBay. The attraction here to the scammer, is that they can drive the transaction along with any lines they prefer. They will try to milk every cent out of your pocket and laugh about it.

Another reason why trading off eBay is not a good idea is that you have to keep your own records of the transaction. Keep in mind that you forfeit any cover from eBay buyer protection and Pay Pal buyer protection. Another thing is that you will not be able to leave feedback to warn others.

2) Keep an eye on brand new sellers.

Although the vast majority of new sellers are genuine and honest, be very cautious of buying from people selling high priced items too early. This pattern is just not normal. Would you start out by selling high priced items on eBay? A new seller fitting this description may be someone who has been previously suspended and registered with another ID.

3) Protect your eBay ID.

Never use your email address as your eBay ID. Scammers have software that monitors internet traffic looking for information like this. If your eBay ID and email address are the same, it is simple for a fraudster to communicate with other eBay members in your name. Soon enough, you might even be banned from eBay because of their illegal activities.

4) Be cautious of 1 day listings.

Even though 1 day listings are used by expert sellers with authentic items, scammers will use this method to trick you. For instance they will sometimes use 1 day auctions to gain a quick sale before their actions can be reported. You must be very careful with these listings.

5) You should make sure the payment methods are legitimate.

Scammers prefer to choose payment methods in which the buyer has no protection. These include wire transfers where the buyer has no way of tracing where their own money is heading. Western Union Money Transfers and Bid Pay are easily manipulated by scammers, and you should avoid them at all costs.

Postal orders are similar although they are the popular payment method among the super star sellers. Bank transfers and personal checks can only provide the possibility of your bank investigating the details of the account the money was transferred into. For the best protection use Pay pal and add credit with a credit card.

6) False stock photographs and descriptions.

Due to the fact that scammers do not have the physical items, they will use stock photographs. There is also a great chance that they will probably use the manufacturer’s product description too. Do some research and search for other auctions by the same seller.

7) Beware of the too good to be true price.

Scammers want your money as quickly as possible. You may find they offer to close their auction early with you as the winner having bid a price which you know to be somewhat of a bargain. If this ever occurs, you should ask yourself some serious questions. Check to see how many bids were placed before yours.

8) The language they write in has distinct grammatical errors.

A high percentage of scammers tend to operate from other continents. Due to the fact that they are not fully familiar with English, they will use a translation tool like to create their emails to you. Keep a serious eye out for emails that are not in proper English. There are many legitimate sellers that cannot speak or write in English that well, but this is just another precaution you must take.

9) Be sure to know the location of the person.

Many lazy scammers will tend to mess up their locations. Their auction will state that the product is in the United Kingdom, but their ID shows their location to be in China. There is a high chance that when you contact these sellers you will receive an excuse as to why the item is not located properly, and therefore cannot be collected in person. If this ever happens to you, check with Pay Pal to see where the seller is located before making a purchase.

10) Ask many questions for your own sake.

Make it a habit to ask your seller a question. Their response will help you judge how genuine they are. If the ask a seller a question button is not there, do not trust them. This could be an account hijacker trying to prevent buyers from asking any questions. They reason they want to stop this from happening is because questions can easily be routed to the real account owner.

11) Keep changing your passwords.

Try not to have the same password on your eBay and Pay Pal accounts. Make sure you change your passwords every month on both eBay and Pay Pal. This will also keep scammers and hijackers away.

12) Credit card payment

For high value items, or for amounts of money you cannot afford to lose, make sure you pay by credit card which has online fraud protection. This will give you some recourse if the seller is fraudulent. In this context, paying via Pay Pal is not the same. Pay Pal does have a buyer protection scheme, but there are criteria which the eBay auction has to satisfy in order to qualify. Keep in mind that Pay Pal only protects to a certain amount.

13) Check the address and telephone number for safety.

Use the seller question link and ask them to send you an email with their address and telephone number. Any honest seller will give you their address and telephone number. When you get the number give them a call and see if you get the genuine seller themselves.

If you can follow these tips, you will easily succeed on eBay. Keep in mind that each day scammers surf through eBay looking for an easy target. As long as you are armed with the knowledge to keep you safe, everything will be just fine.

The Case Of The Nigerian Man With 86 Wives At The Same Time

Nigerians are really having it exciting at present thrilled by the Upper Court and arraigned Mallam Muhammed Bello Abubakar Masaba now famously known as the man with 86 wives. The man with 86 wives is a Nigerian residing in Bida, Niger state aged 84 years. The Upper Sharia Court has arraigned Masaba and slammed a three-count charge on him which are insulting and contempt of religious creed, deceitfully inducing belief of lawful marriage ceremony without lawful marriage.

The case makes an interesting one not only to Nigerians but religious pundits as well because Masaba is viewed as a transgressor of religious obligations and peremptorily asked to divorce 82 of his wives which to me represents more than 96% of his priced inestimable jewels. Masaba has constantly and rigidly maintained that marrying 86 wives is his rights which needs not be violated, interestingly all of these happy wives of his have at the same time carried placards to guide their own and protect their marriage from the Niger State Court. The Sharia Court appears to be protecting these many wives of Masaba but the many wives are insisting that they do not require any form of protection because they happily entered into the marriage.

This business and possible interference from the state which is part of the larger Nigerian state is thoroughly amazing because none of the 86 wives of Masaba brought any argument to the door steps of the court or the police seeking for divorce yet there is a case lingering in court in determination of divorce not about to hit the rocks and lawfully entered into too by reason of proper and legal marriages as recognized by the families of the wives and the society.

Well the whole story associated with 86 wives at a time may not be a light one if you take into consideration that the man with 86 wives was arrested by three truck loads of armed policemen at about 400pm on Monday September 18, 2008 (See The Guardian Sunday October 19, 2008) though his wives were left behind. His charges were read out to him by Barr Adamu Usman the Niger State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in an offence according to the court is contrary to sections 210, 383 and 386 of the Penal code respectively.

The business and intervention of the state of Niger which is part of the Nigeria state on a non existent matter or course not brought to it by any involved party is what raises questions here. Should a state not operating under the religious laws dictate to a man how many wives he should marry legally and illegally? This is puzzling indeed. Since when has it become our constitutional requirement or concern on how many wives a woman happy man should take to? That the Niger State Upper Sharia Court in seeking to achieve its aims used the official Agencies of the state and that of Federal Republic of Nigeria such as the Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice and truck loads of policeman in pursuing to divorce a happily married couple is also disturbing and ridiculous. One cannot but laugh and at the same time marvel endlessly.

It also raises question on whether Christianity, Islam and African Religion have become the official religion of Nigeria or Niger State. Where does this court hope to prove that Masaba’s wives are unhappy? Does a Court dissolve a marriage in which the parties and offerings are happy? How enforceable is the outcome of this judgment if the state gets one? Is this a criminal or civil offence? How can this offence be adequately defined? Help me to answer these questions.

Excitingly I am one of millions of people awaiting this landmark judgment because some of the children of this man are by far older than most of their father’s captors and Masaba who has suffered untold humiliation in the hands of his captors which all began after the busy-body British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) revelation that Masaba was a compulsive polygamist with 86 wives at the time.

Please join me in following up with this matter, I shall keep you posted.

Slip Covers For Furniture

Whether you have faded or torn fabric on your chairs, or simply want a new look, or want to protect your furniture, give slip covers a try.

I’ve just discovered the easiest way in the world to give my living room a brand new look. My old furniture, while very comfortable, was becoming worn out, with stains on a couple of the chairs and a rip on one of the cushions of the couch. (Ah, children, they’re so much fun, aren’t they?)

I was contemplating getting the furniture re-upholstered, but didn’t want to go to that expense, and I certainly didn’t want to go to the expense of buying new furniture, especially when there was nothing wrong with the old except for those cosmetic problems.

Then I discovered slipcovers!

It’s not necessary to re-upholster my furniture - and then go to the expense of re-upholstering it again should the new fabric become stained - when all I need to do is purchase relatively inexpensive slip covers, which I can replace again and again if it becomes necessary.

What I was impressed about was not only the vast array of designs that slip covers come in, but also the fabrics. I never would have thought you could get leather slip covers, but you can. Other fabrics include denim, suede, chenille, or cotton and damask.

The designs are nothing to sneeze at. There are hundreds of designs to choose from, from floral to plaid to geometric, to solid colors. They also come in themes for kid’s rooms - sports, horses, etc. Indeed, having slip covers for chairs in your kid’s room only makes sense!

I was also pleased to see that these slip covers come in a variety of sizes - they’ll fit my couch and my recliner, to say nothing of the straight chairs in my dining room. And of course they’ll fit love seats, futons and ottomans as well - any size furniture you’ve got! And if you can’t get something ready-made that will fit, of course you can always order something custom-made.

So I’ve gone out and picked out a wide variety of slip covers, because I’ve got big plans. My entire family comes here for the holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, so I’ll cover the furniture with seasonal designs at that time.

If you decide to use slip covers on your furniture, make sure they are preshrunk and prewashed. Indeed, make sure they are machine washable so that they are easy to care for! Some fabrics of course will have to be dry-cleaned, but I always prefer to take the easiest possible way!

Perhaps a parent, sibling, uncle, aunt, cousin, or friend played the piano, at least to some degree. And, with many of us, the desire to play the instrument existed but, for some reason or other, we never fully entertained the idea.

This may have been due to one (or more) of several reasons:

*A piano was not available to us

*The encouragement to get involved did not exist

*There was no private teacher available locally

*Financial means were not available for formal study

*Belief in our ability was not strong

*We felt we had to “live up to” a certain level of competence

*There was discouragement from a non-empathetic “teacher”

*We didn’t “connect” with a certain teacher, and we allowed this to “justify” not exploring further

*Our desire was not strong enough to overcome any or all of the above…
